^Awesome to hear, thanks for the update. It seems like an SSD is a no-brainer if one wants to do an upgrade. I've used a few SSDs in netbooks and some PCs and the difference always amazes me.
Planning on picking up a Mini at some point and putting an SSD.. looks like its quite the process. Wish it was easier to do in an iMac as well.

You won't believe this.
It was a bad wireless card.
Using brilliant deductive reasoning I finally thought, "this is either a badly seated Airport card, or just a downright bad card."
After unplugging/replugging the card in numerous times (disconnecting/connecting the little plug each time), just to be sure it was in fact seated well (which I'd done once before last week), I finally opened up my other Mac laptop (which uses the same identical card) and put it into this new iBook.
Damn. Lightening fast. I"M UP.
Just to check, I then plugged in this supposedly broken Airport card into my PowerBook, and sure enough: no signal. The card really is bad.
Why did the iBook work great while in the Apple Store in Cherry Creek? This is what initially had me think that it could not be a hardware problem. Then I realized: perhaps a Mac can get barely pick up a wireless signal even without the Airport card. Either that, or the card kinda/sorta/sometimes would work. And, I'll bet the signal strength in the Apple store was super strong, and got through even a semi-busted airport card.
That's the first time a problem has actually been the darn hardware in all my 14 years of Mac'ing. I will never again discount physical matter as the potential source of the glitch.
Criminy. I think I spend about 30-40 solid hours trying to figure this one out.
Yaaaaahoooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Top-10 positions are all well and good, but I want to see some real hord-core unit figures that fully show the penetration the iMac G5 is having.
Obviously I won't get that, but it's what I want anyway.
Pointless rant aside, it is pleasing.

G5 Powerbooks aren't coming out time soon, while the heat output of the 970 has been somewhat alleviated by the 970FX, the system controller chip still produces a large amount of heat; removing it or using one operating a lower speed would defeat the point of using a 970 anyway. I expect the G4 powerbooks to hit 1.5 Ghz before the switch to the G5.

Not limited edition according to Engadget and Joystiq. Worry not.
The version but what about the Black color - is that permanent?

maybe you don't need to decide right now whether it will be more than a hobby.
if you love it, then keep working at it! enter competitions, share your photos with friends, and have a gallery exhibit when you're ready. ultimately, if/when you are ready to be professional, it will be clear. but don't limit yourself with labels for now- just keep taking pictures, keep experimenting, and be open to possibility.
check out this guy: http://ericsambol.com/
photography is his passion, and his job is completely unrelated. it's been really cool to watch his progress.
keep up the passion:)

I've had this happen to me.
Seems to happen only when I've rebooted a system (maybe from sleep state -- see the next paragraph for a possible explanation). I guess it sees some ghost of the old system around (BonJour I expect) and renames itself to avoid conflict.
I've got a Mac mini server handling DHCP/DNS. I know this only happens on a specific system that doesn't have a fixed IP address assigned using the "Static Maps" page in Server Admin. But it might not be the server at fault. I also have an AirPort Extreme that does the Wake-on-LAN for the system. Since it responds to BonJour requests for sleeping systems, if it thinks the system being rebooted is asleep when a new one appears with a different IP address (via DHCP assignment).
If I'm right, you can solve the problem by having the DHCP service assign a fixed IP using the Static Maps.
Now if it is the server itself that is changing names, and it has a static IP, I'm baffled.

I just purchased one of the otterbox defenders on eBay for my iPhone 4 :D. I was just wondering is anyone would like to tell me some thoughts on the case such as whether they like it or not, some tips for using it, pretty much anything would be helpful.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I was gonna say you'd be a pretty sad bastard to go for a shirt only, but I'm sure if your buying something else and explain your situation, they'll oblige you.

The iPhone 4 was a failure at launch. The antenna is broken. It drops Internet connections and calls if held a certain. The glass claiming to be strong is weak sauce and the only good things on the phone are the cameras and screen.*
Am I the only one who feels this way?
yes you are. Considering how much money Apple has made from the iPhone 4, not even counting ATT and now Verizon, your statement is beyond moronic.

Well my experience today was interesting. Drug my kid out to wait in line and was number 40 to 50. It started pouring down rain and they took our name and number and so we waited in the truck. The line started moving so we got in and took our place where it was dry. Well they sold out and reserved a 16gb one for me since they were getting no 32s in. They called to tell me that the phone was in and I asked if by chance they had some 32s. Well low and behold they did. I got my 32 After a total of four hours.

I have a 17" iMac G4 that I am looking to sell.
The specs are:
17" screen
1.25 ghz
768 meg of ram
80 gig hard drive
Superdrive
FX 5200 video card
OSX Panther edition w/ discs
Apple Pro keyboard, mouse, and speakers
Couple of games as well.
The computer is in excellent condition. I bought in mid September of 2003. I have never sold anything on ebay so I have no supporting seller bona fides. I live in NC and would prefer to sell here and would hand deliver. However, I will ship anywhere in US. I will post pics when I get back home (I am work right now).

Couldn't agree more. I don't see why you have to hate another network, is their competitor paying you off or what? If you like yours awesome, if you hate another wtf cares?
I think Verizon is great and has never let me down even when I have traveled into some pretty rural areas. I like to join in on the whole Verizon vs. AT&T battle just for fun. I can't believe people are so serious about it. Lighten up and use whatever works for you.

My friend and I are going in the morning to scout out what's happening, but it might just be right out in front of the store. We are planning on getting there around 4 or so probably.
